Preparing Your Reel For The Marketplace

Date and Time:

November 8, 2006
6:00pm - 8:00pm

Location:

The Dean's Conference Room, 12th Floor

A workshop for directors, cinematographers, editors and digital artists interested in working in advertising and corporate video. It will focus on content, presentation, packaging and how to use your resources to get a job as a freelancer in the lucrative and competitive world of advertising. Tisch students and alumni will look at reels and see examples of what producers and creative directors are looking for and how to maximize the student film experience to present work in the changing marketplace. Discussion will include the role that the digital filmmaker as producer/director/dp/editor plays in today’s marketplace. The workshop will be conducted by filmmaker David Zellerford (GFTV ’02) who has been a freelance producer and consultant for Ogilvy & Mather since 1999. His company, Pictures In My Room, is a sub-contractor for Ogilvy’s in-house production company, EyePatch Productions. He routinely hires director/dp’s, editors and graphic artists on a freelance basis and has recently co-founded Hangover Lounge, a digital production company dedicated to feature length non-fiction works. Their most recent production, ‘Tis Autumn – The Search For Jackie Paris, premiered in competition at the 2006 Sundance film festival and is being released theatrically by Outsider Pictures in Spring 2007.  Presented by the Office of Career Development at the Tisch School of the Arts.

David Zellerford may have the opportunity to critique a few of the workshop participants' reels. If you have a reel, we encourage you to bring it with you to the session.
