Kim Longinotto and Ziba Mir-Hosseini   DIVORCE IRANIAN STYLE

Iranian women seeking divorce meet with strong opposition.  Often, they stand by helplessly when their husbands are put in the right by the court and get custody of their children, even if they abuse them or attach little value to the education of their daughters.  Filmmaker Kim Longinotto and writer Ziba Mir-Hosseini document three lawsuits in Teheran in which the dignity of women and justice are the big losers.  In defiance of the regime, these women now try to regain control over their own lives.

Marita Lorenz grew up on her father's ship wihich frequently docked in Havana.  After the revolution, she met Castro, began an affair with him and became pregnant.  Six months into her pregnancy, she was drugged and given an abortion against her will.  Shortly thereafter, the CIA recruited her as an informant.  Her life in intelligence brought her into contact with Venezuelan dictator Marcos Perez Jimenez and Lee Harvey Oswald.  A truly fascinating and fantastic story...

Bonteheuwel, a township nearCape Town, was notorious for its violent riots in the mid-1980's during the armed struggle against Apartheid.  This powerful film focuses on the day-to-day lives of two former members of the teenage unit Bonteheuwel Military Wing, a guerilla branch of the ANC, as they find their way in present South Africa.

Silenced: International Perspectives on Censorship and Resistance in Film

This panel brings students, artists and faculty together for an international dialogue on film which has been categorized as "censored" according to various political, cultural, or socio-political standards.  A select panel of guests will explore the multifaceted complexity of film, its message and its audience.
