Greetings! The Office of Student Affairs is "student central" at Tisch. We provide a range of important services to Tisch undergraduate and graduate students. If you have a question or a problem, we can help you. We pride ourselves on friendly and responsive service to our students. Located at 721 Broadway, 8th floor, the Student Affairs office is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Our general office number is 212-998-1900.
The services we offer include the following:
1. We act as a liaison between Tisch students and NYU central offices, including the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, the Financial Aid Office, Housing, Health Services, Counseling, Career Services, and the Bursar and Registrar. We are advocates for our students, and we mediate disputes and resolve problems with these central offices on their behalf.
2. We oversee academic services and policies. We are responsible for student advisement on a number of matters, including registration, double majors, minors, degree requirements, grading policies, permission to study off campus, AP credit, and transfer credit.
3. We provide career services through the Tisch Office of Career Development. Services include career workshops, panel discussions on arts topics, internship listings, a Monthly Career Development Bulletin, a career resource library, and individual career counseling sessions.
4. We offer assistance to students seeking financial aid and scholarships. We sponsor special workshops on financial aid at select times during the year and serve as a clearinghouse for information on scholarships and loan programs. Students are welcome to schedule an appointment with one of our financial aid counselors at any time.
5. We offer personal counseling for our students. We have two full-time counselors on staff at Tisch who meet with students individually and in groups to discuss personal issues. We also are able to refer students to the Counseling and Behavioral Health Services (CBH). CBH staff includes counselors, psychologists, and psychiatrists.
6. We sponsor events and activities, and organize a special weeklong Tisch orientation each year for the new entering class. We also coordinate an annual Parents' Weekend in October, and organize the annual "Tisch Salute to the Graduating Class". Throughout the year, Student Affairs makes arrangements for students to attend theatre shows and arts events in New York City, sometimes at discounted rates.
7. We advise international students. To meet the needs of international students, we offer a special mandatory program for new international students to orient them to NYU and New York City.
8. We advise Tisch clubs. All of our Tisch clubs give students an opportunity to connect with other Tisch students outside of the classroom and to share their interests. We also have information on the more than 200 NYU student organizations.
9. We process requests for leaves of absence, readmission, and internal transfer from one Tisch department to another. Applications for each of these can be obtained at the Student Affairs front desk.
10. We serve as an information and referral center for student services issues. If you need help and are not sure where to turn or who to contact, please feel free to stop by our office or call us. We offer assistance on any issue. We look forward to seeing you!
