In all Tisch undergraduate departments students may choose to pursue a second major or minor. The second major or minor may be in another division of NYU or within Tisch, assuming that the department allows such study. Double majors should be in CAS or within Tisch. Minors can be taken through most divisions of NYU. Application for a second major or minor should be made after the freshman year has been completed.
If you choose to double major or minor in another division of NYU, your "primary" department is your Tisch department. If work for a second major or minor is done in Tisch, your "primary" department is the department into which you were first accepted. If minoring, your primary department is always the department of your major.
To declare the double major outside the Tisch School of the Arts or a minor within Tisch, please fill out the Declaration of Second Major/Minor Form. Then, have an advisor from the second department complete the form with you. The completed form is submitted to your primary department.
Students may declare a minor outside of Tisch using Albert. More information on cross-school minors can be found at http://www.nyu.edu/registrar/registration/cross-school-minor.html. Students who wish to complete a double major in another department within the Tisch School of the Arts must fill out the Declaration of Second Major/Minor Form. The number of double majors within the Tisch School of the Arts is limited.
Some course work done to satisfy requirements of the second major or minor may occasionally be used toward degree requirements of your primary department, e.g., psychology courses from a second major in psychology would be applicable toward the social science portion of your Tisch liberal arts/general education requirement.
