Kanbar Institute of Film Program Featured in Documentary Series

Why do so many people want to make movies?  Tune into the Independent Film Channel's (IFC) new 10-part documentary series FILM SCHOOL and you may be surprised at the answer.  Alumna, executive producer and creator Nanette Burstein (The Kid Stays in the Picture) and alumnus and producer Jordan Roberts document the trials and tribulations of four film students during their final year in the Graduate Film Division of the Kanbar Institute of Film and Television at the Tisch School of the Arts.  The series also offers anecdotes about filmmaking from such well-known NYU alums and directors as Spike Lee, Martin Scorsese, Oliver Stone and Amy Heckerling.

The Independent Film Channel will air FILM SCHOOL on Friday nights at 10:30 pm ET/PT beginning September 10.  IFC is the first and most widely distributed channel dedicated to independent film 24 hours a day, uncut and commercial free.

"Unlike other film schools, which work much like the studio system, the NYU graduate film program is designed to create the auteur independent filmmaker," said Burstein, who speaks from first hand experience.  "Students write, direct, produce and raise financing for their own short films, while their classmates, also aspiring directors, collaborate as their crew.  Some students abandon successful careers in other fields to pursue their dreams of becoming filmmakers.  The stakes are high; the process is full of drama."
